(RENEWAL) Toma de Huellas: Print & Bring to Appointment Checklist

Renewing your TIE in Spain should come with its own Olympic medal, because getting an appointment is basically a sport. The moment you finally land one, you treat it like winning the lottery. You’ll swear you’re sleeping with your folder under your pillow, triple-checking your documents before bed, and maybe even laying out your “appointment day outfit” like it’s the first day of school. Jokes aside, when that precious cita previa appears, you have to show up more than ready. No guessing, no missing papers, no “I thought I printed that.” So to save you stress (and maybe a few tears), here’s a checklist to keep you sane.

Documents to Bring

*Updated as of October 2025*

  • Empadronamiento (Padrón Certificate)
    – Bring your most recent copy.
    – Optional: print a second copy just in case.
  • TIE Card (Current Foreign ID Card)
    – Bring the physical card. No need to print a copy.
  • Passport Photos (Foto de Carnet)
    – Bring at least one, but extras are a good idea.
    – I highly recommend getting updated photos and not using last year’s photos.
  • Passport (Original)
    – Bring your actual passport.
  • EX–17 Form (Application for TIE Renewal)
    – Download, complete, print, sign, and date it.
    – Bring one signed original + one copy.

  • Tax Payment Form – Modelo 790, Código 012
    – Fill it out online, print it, and pay it at the bank.
    – Make sure it’s stamped or marked “Pagado.”

  • Carta de Nombramiento (Placement Letter)
    – Bring the original plus one extra copy.
  • Appointment Confirmation
    – Print your appointment confirmation email or page.
  • Passport Copy
    – Make copies of all pages (including your photo page and any pages with entry stamps).
    – If your passport doesn’t have a visible arrival stamp, bring proof of entry into Spain (like a boarding pass or train ticket).
  • Approved Prórroga (Renewal Approval)
    – Print your approved renewal document from Mercurio or your official platform.
  • Regreso Authorization (if applicable)
    – If you traveled home and returned to Spain, bring your Autorización de Regreso form and stamped proof of re-entry.

Prórroga Pro Tip:
Keep everything in a clear folder with labeled sections. Spanish offices love organization, and it’ll make the appointment go much smoother.

Love always + good luck,
