I knew Mallorca would be beautiful, I mean, duh, it’s a Spanish island surrounded by turquoise water and dramatic cliffs. I was expecting sangria, sunsets, and maybe the occasional flamenco guitar in the distance. But what I didn’t expect was for it to feel like Germany with better weather and more sunscreen. Apparently, Mallorca is Germany’s favorite escape. Like… they’ve moved in. Half the signs were in German, every other menu had schnitzel, and the party scene? Full-on Oktoberfest with palm trees. My face was doing a lot of polite confusion.
This was a full-on girls’ trip, and in true responsible-chaotic fashion, we booked everything in advance: flights, hotel, catamaran tour, beach day. Because once you’re actually there? It’s free. (Girl math. Don’t debate me.)
Our first big stop was Nikki Beach for lunch and drinks, and let me tell you, it was the vibe. Think white linen beds, chilled rosé, house music in the background, and just enough shade to not sweat off your lashes. It’s giving “I summer in the Mediterranean,” even if your bank account says otherwise.
Now, of course, we went out, but somehow found ourselves in the middle of the German district at night. Picture this: EDM remixes of 2000s club hits, a dance floor packed with 6-foot-tall Germans living their best lives, and me spinning in a circle like “Did we accidentally teleport to Berlin?” Still a great time, just… not the Spanish romance movie I had queued in my head.
We didn’t explore as much of the island as I’d have liked, but we did hop on a stunning catamaran boat tour that cruised along crystal-clear waters. They had a cookout on board (yes, on the boat), with grilled meats, fresh salads, cold drinks, and good vibes. We even went snorkeling… although the spot they anchored at was giving very much “just water.” Not a fish in sight. Still, it was peaceful, and I’ll never complain about floating in blue water with a cold drink.
At one point, we took a 45+ minute walk across town under the blazing sun, sweating out every poor decision from the night before, but it was worth it. We ended up in Palma, the island’s capital. It’s this perfect blend of cobblestone streets, seaside views, and architectural drama. The showstopper? La Seu, a massive Gothic cathedral that looks like it was designed by a moody poet and a perfectionist sculptor. It literally made me stop and whisper, “Okay, wow.”
Here are a few things you might not know about Mallorca:
- It’s the largest of Spain’s Balearic Islands
- Chopin once lived there (because even composers need a beach break)
- There are over 250 beaches on the island, yes, 250
- And fun fact: you can drive across the whole island in just over an hour
All in all, Mallorca gave what it needed to give: beautiful beaches, good food, endless laughs, unexpected German influence, and just the right amount of chaos. Would I go back? In a heartbeat. But next time, I’m skipping the bratwurst rave and diving a little deeper into the real Mallorca.
Love always,
