Fate seemed to guide me back to Puerto Vallarta, as I found myself in this charming city again, exactly a year after my last visit. It was during that initial trip that the idea for this blog was born. Puerto Vallarta not only provided me with an answer to a lingering question from the beginning of the year but also served as the inspiration behind the creation of this platform. Now, on this return journey, I am presented with an opportunity to reflect and write about the beauty of this city that has played a pivotal role in my life.
Originally drawn here for love, as I attended a wedding, I am leaving with an even greater appreciation for this blog, life in general, and an overwhelming sense of gratitude. It feels like a complete and fulfilling circle, bringing my journey in Puerto Vallarta to a heartwarming conclusion. PV I feel like I owe you? So let me just write about you.
Puerto Vallarta, you’re always up for a good time. As soon as you step off the plane at the airport, you’re greeted with a tequila shot. And let me tell you, Mexicans really know their tequila—it’s pure agave and practically homegrown. The locals are friendly and always ready to show you around. However, I must admit, the driving and the infrastructure layout still unnerved me, even on my first visit. The roads aren’t laid out in neat parallel lines like they are in the States. It feels like a free-for-all out there, with vehicles going in every direction.
The environment seems to flourish, with vibrant flowers surrounded by the jungle, feeling completely immersed. Wildlife lives up to its name, with iguanas making use of resort amenities by sunbathing on rocks. Every place welcomes you to come and join the excitement, particularly the bars and clubs in downtown PV. It’s amazing how they simply want you to have a good time, introducing you to the party atmosphere and ensuring you enjoy your vacation to the fullest.
The food here is consistently fresh and satisfying. I’ve yet to encounter a guacamole bowl that disappoints. It’s evident that the food is prepared with care and affection. One aspect of Mexican culture that I truly appreciate is the warm greetings; even a passing encounter is met with a smile, and if you’re fortunate, you’ll hear a cheerful “hola!”
Being an American, I feel a bit let down by my lack of fluency in Spanish when visiting Spanish-speaking countries. Nevertheless, I’m actively working on improving that. What’s heartening is that everyone, from taxi drivers to waiters, goes out of their way to create a homey atmosphere, bridging the language gap effortlessly or at least to the best of their skills.
I encourage everyone to attempt speaking and learning the local language when traveling abroad. It adds so much depth to your experiences, making your trips more vibrant with local interactions. Who knows, you might even make new friends along the way.
Puerto Vallarta, thank you again for welcoming me back to your stunning city. I hope to return, fluent in Spanish and confident enough to give directions when needed. Stay lively and beautiful until we meet again!
Love always,
American Girl Meets World
